In the event of a natural disaster, will you know what to do for your business to survive?

Most small businesses lack the resources and expertise to create a business continuity plan to deal with a major business interruption. That is one reason why at least one-fourth of small businesses that close because of a disaster never reopen again.

Their chances of “riding out the storm” are much better if they plan ahead to protect their property, contents and inventory – as well as their employees, customers and visitors – from the effects of disruption. This is where my agency, Wendy Austin Insurance Agency, Inc, comes in.

Farmers has partnered with the Institute of Business and Home Safety (IBHS) to make a disaster-recovery planning program available to you. It is called “Open for Business” and it is a comprehensive tool you can use to create a disaster recovery plan for your business. What is more, this valuable service is free of charge. It is just one of the advantages that my agency provides to our Business Customers.

Few Facts:

• One out of every five businesses experience a major disruption each year.

• Small business owners have a higher probability of being impacted by disaster.

• More than 60% of small businesses do not have a backup power supply

• Small business owners have fewer recovery resources and a lower tolerance for losses.

• As many as 90% of small businesses do not have a business continuity plan in place.

What and Who is IBHS?

• IBHS is an initiative of the insurance industry to reduce deaths, injuries, property damage economical losses and human suffering caused by natural disasters.

• IBHS is a non-profit research and communications organization committed to institutionalizing natural disaster protection as a public value.

• IBHS is headquartered in Tampa Bay, Florida. It’s members are made up of more than 100 of the country’s leading property-casualty insurers and reinsures. It also has formal partner agreements with may other organizations, such as the American Red Cross, SBA and American Society of Civil Engineers.

Earlier this year IBHS met with representatives from Farmers to discuss “Open For Business”, an internet-based disaster recovery and risk assessment too they (IBHS) had developed.

This service, valued at $2,000/user, is available exclusively to IBHS member insurers. The Wendy Austin Insurance Agency, Inc. representing Farmers Insurance Group of Companies, member in good standing, want to offer this value added service FREE to our business clients.
