Beware of Quick Uploads!

Now that most of us are taking digital photos—and taking a lot of them—many of us are also uploading them to a website for professional printing. Please be aware that on many of those sites the default setting is a “quick” upload. That may sound very appealing as we rocket through 2010 with the feeling that we have so little time and so much to do. But don’t sacrifice the quality of your photos for a few extra minutes in upload time.

When I take photos my camera is set to the largest possible file size. Give me more pixels! I want my images to be as sharp and clear as possible. So why would I give up some of that high quality when printing my photos? The website you’re using may tell you that their “quick upload” resolution is good enough for your average size prints, but what if a month or a year from now you decide to use those photos for a larger project? Do you want to spend the time to upload your photos a second time? Will you even remember that you did not upload them at full resolution the first time? Protect your work and your time by taking a moment to read the information on that upload screen and check the box that says “full resolution”.

An even better solution is to upload your images to the Creative Memories Digital Center. There you will always have a full resolution upload. There is no cost to register at the Digital Center and store your photos, as well as share them with your friends. If you order a lot of prints you will want to take advantage of the Prepaid Print Program, which brings your cost down to just twelve cents per print. In addition to prints, the Digital Center is the place to order your 12x12 or 8x8 page prints, photo mugs, mouse pads, t-shirts, photo panels, wall prints (posters), and of course your digital StoryBooks. So upload those beautiful, high quality digital files hiding in your camera and enjoy beautiful, high quality prints and photo gifts.
