How Else Can We Go Solar?

Hello, friends of the environment (and those looking to save extra bucks on electricity anywhere you can)!

Our core business, of course, is to design and sell solar power to home owners and business owners (we'll put solar pretty much anywhere we can), but I also feel like our mission is to encourage people to think outside of the proverbial and much discussed box when it comes to harnessing the sun's energy.

I've been encouraged by the small, solar mobile charging units that I've seen hit the market in the last couple of years, but this one may be the most unique, effective and interesting that I've seen for a while. (As I post this on Blogger, Google's free blogging tool, I'd also like to point out that this story came through my Google RSS feed so, once again, thanks Google for running my life so efficiently.)

This story comes to us courtesy of Macworld about the Changers website and mobile charging unit. The unit itself is pretty cool and the battery it charges has more juice than a lot of the micro solar chargers that I've seen (including the unit that we gave away at Evening Among The Stars). The product will be available in mid-November, but I love the model of the website as well: customers are encouraged to keep track of their charged hours online which, in turn, will create credits that they can use at online e-tailers. Pretty cool, right? Check it out and keep it in mind for the holidays.

One other thing to keep in mind: POWER BILLS. Power bills are to Solar Energy Worx what spinach is to Popeye. The next time you hear a friend, relative, colleague, neighbor, your kid's soccer coach, etc. either complain about the increasing cost of utilities or express a curiosity about the advantages of solar, the magic response is "My friend Rachel will take a look at your power bill and analyze it for free." What could be a better Christmas/End of Year gift for a home than electricity for the next 30 years?

With thanks!
